Rita Elnora Baker, age 75, of Humboldt passed away on March 29, 2024, at Overland Park Regional Medical Center. Rita was the first of six children born to Lawrence and A. Elnora (Mintz) Olson. She was born on July 19, 1948, at Iola, Kansas.
Rita grew up in Humboldt, Kansas, and graduated from Humboldt High School in 1966. Following high school Rita worked in Olathe, Kansas, at the school for the deaf as a house parent through May 1967. She then worked as a nurse at Olathe Medical Center in the surgery department. In 1971 she returned to Humboldt where she was a dispatcher for Ruan Transport and where she met the love of her life Carrol. They married on May 15, 1978, at St Peter's Lutheran Church in Humboldt. They made their home on the farm east of Humboldt where she ran the dairy and farmed for the next 10 years. Rita finished her career working as a financial administrator processing the finances and payroll for Southeast Kansas Mental Health Center. Rita had a passion for sewing and knitting, and she made many beautiful quilts. Rita loved riding motorcycles and was a member of the BTW motorcycle club. She spent a lot of time loving and spoiling her grandkids and great-grandkids.
Rita was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Carrol;, her brother, John Olson; her uncles, David, Harold, Paul, and her aunt Corrine.
She is survived by six children and their spouses; Dennis and Janice Baker, Humboldt, Kansas, Donita and Mike Fitzmaurice, LaHarpe, Kansas, Dianne Lisa and Chip Johnson, Savannah, Missouri, Kim Ross and her fiancé Barry Allen, Marion, Kansas, Robbie and Gina Baker, Humboldt, Kansas, Ron and Julie Baker, Mooresville, North Carolina; 16 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-granddaughters; her siblings, Jane Ehlts, Donnellson, Iowa, Mike Olson, Humboldt, Kansas, Anna Cole, Colony, Kansas, Joe Olson, Elsmore, Kansas.
There will be a visitation from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Friday, April 5, 2024, in The Venue at Feuerborn Family Funeral Service. A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 6, 2024, at St. Peter's Lutheran Church, Humboldt, Kansas. Burial will follow in Mount Hope Cemetery, Humboldt, Kansas.
Memorials are suggested to St. Peter's Lutheran Church, and may be left with Feuerborn Family Funeral Service, 1883 US Highway 54, Iola, Kansas.
