Rita Ann Benton, formerly known as Rita Ann Shepherd, was born on May 3, 1971, in Covington, Georgia. Rita entered eternal rest on February 19, 2026, in Atlanta, Georgia, leaving behind a legacy of love and cherished memories.
Rita was a vibrant member of her community, known for her warm spirit and generous heart. She touched the lives of many and became a beloved figure among her friends and family. Throughout her life, Rita demonstrated an unwavering commitment to those she loved, bringing joy and light wherever she went.
In celebration of her remarkable life, two events will be held to honor her memory. The visitation will take place at Lester Lackey & Sons Funeral Home, Inc. on Monday, March 2, 2026, starting at 12:30 PM and concluding at 6:00 PM. This will provide an opportunity for family, friends, and all who were touched by Rita's kindness to gather in remembrance of her life.
Following the visitation, a Celebration of Life will be held on Tuesday, March 3, 2026, 11:00 A.M. at Springfield Baptist Church, 1877 Iris Dr. SE Conyers, GA, 30013 Rev. Dr. Eric W. Lee, Pastor & Eulogist. This event will serve as a heartfelt tribute to Rita's beautiful spirit and the indelible mark she left on the hearts of all who knew her. Her Final resting location will be held at Springfield Baptist Church Cemetery.
Her legacy of love will be cherished by: former spouse Bill Allen Benton, loving daughter, Ritavian Alyse Benton, father Deacon Henry Louis Shepherd, sister, Sharon Lafaye Shepherd-Jones, two sisters-in-law: Maxine Head (Jessie) and Kayla Brown, brother-in-law: Darold Brown, nephews: Antonio Carter (Kym), Mckale, Brian and Jashone Shepherd, two nieces: Madison and Kynelee Carter, a dear friend, Elaine Morgan, and a host of extended family and dear friends. Rita’s warmth and gentle spirit will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
As we remember Rita Ann Benton, let us carry forward her legacy of compassion, kindness, and love.
