RITA RAGAS BROOKS

Rita Ragas Brooks, age 79, passed away peacefully at West Jefferson Medical Center on Friday, April 21, 2023. She was a native of Port Sulphur, LA and a resident of New Orleans, LA. Rita was a 1962 graduate of Sunrise High School. She was employed for many years with Hancock Fabrics as a cashier and assistant manager. Rita truly enjoyed fashion designing and was a gifted seamstress. She made everything from bedspreads, curtains to three-piece suits and wedding gowns. She would sketch a design on a notepad during the week, cut the fabric, sew the pieces together and wear a new suit to church on Sunday. Rita enjoyed traveling with her family and friends, which led her to visit many places in the United States and abroad. Beloved wife of the late Robert Brooks, Jr. Devoted mother of Thasia (Philip) and Chadwick; through marriage she became the mother of Melanie. Loving grandmother of Nataniel, Tynisha, Sasha, Ashley, David, Sarah, Ishmael, Philip II, Mia, Brandon, and Taylor. Daughter of the late Wallace and Irma Ragas. Sister of Edith (Desi), Vera (the late Joseph Sr.), Mattie (Ephraim) and the late Wallace Ragas, Jr., John Ragas, Wayne Ragas, and Wanda Lawrence. Sister-in -law of Louise (the late Wallace), Minola (the late Jake), Helen (the late Jules) and Silva (the late Kelly). Also cherishing her memories are 16 great grandchildren, 1 great great granddaughter, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends. Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend a Memorial Celebration at DAVIS MORTUARY SERVICE, 230 MONROE STREET GRETNA, LA on Thursday, April 27, 2023, at 11:00a.m.  Rev.
