Rita Marie Chernick

Rita Marie Chernick, age 77, died on Thursday, September 11, 2025, at St. Anthony Medical Center of Rockford, IL. She was born on June 28, 1948, in Chicago, IL, the daughter of William & Dolores (Samp) Sutter. She married Allen J. Chernick on August 30, 1969. Rita enjoyed many simple things in life, feeding the birds, quilting, and she was an avid Cubs fan. The biggest part of her life was her family; she loved to entertain her family and friends.

She is preceded in death by her parents, husband Allen, and brother Mike Sutter. Rita is survived and missed dearly by her loving children John (Ericka) Chernick of Plano, IL; Bill (Maggie) Chernick of Byron, IL; brother Bill Sutter of Channahon, IL; grandchildren Lauren (Ryan Ottens) Chernick; Drew Chernick; Bethany Chernick; Michael (Hannah) Chernick; Robert Delarosa; Luke (Mya Hildreth) Chernick; and great-grandchildren Archer & Evelyn.

A visitation will be held Saturday, September 20, 2025, between the hours of 10:00 AM and 11:00 AM at St. Mary Catholic Church of Byron, IL. Immediately following the visitation, a Mass of Christian Burial will be held at the church with Father Romeo Pavino. Rita will than be laid to rest alongside her husband at St. Mary Catholic Cemetery of Byron, IL following the Mass. Memorials are established in her name and may be directed to the family.
