Rita Renae Gakin, 74, of Brainerd, passed away on March 18, 2025. She was born on October 27, 1950, to William and Francis (Kappes) Braunschweig.
On July 23, 1977, Rita married the love of her life, Michael “Buck” Gakin, in Brainerd, MN. Together, they built a life centered around family, love, and cherished traditions. Rita’s greatest joy was being with her family—her husband, children, grandchildren, and extended relatives meant everything to her.
She found happiness in the simple moments of life, whether it was cooking and baking for loved ones, watching her favorite sports on TV, or reminiscing through the many keepsakes and trinkets she lovingly collected over the years. Her warmth, kindness, and ability to make every moment special will be deeply missed.
Rita is survived by her husband, Michael (Buck); sons Jason (Gina) and Jeremy (Amanda); and grandchildren Neva, Maverick, Nolan, Tatum, Taylor, Hailey, and Jonathan. She also leaves behind her siblings Charles, Vern, Dean, Kevin, Fran, Pat, Sue, Char, and Wanda, along with many nieces, nephews, and extended family members. She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Francis; her brother Dennis; and her sisters Joan and Nancy.
A gathering to honor Rita’s life will be held on March 25, 2025, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Brenny Family Funeral Chapel in Baxter. There will be a prayer service held at 5:30pm.
