Rita George

Rita Marie George, age 97, passed away peacefully on January 20, 2026.

Rita was born on June 1, 1928, in Fremont, Ohio. As a teenager, she moved with her family to Detroit, Michigan, where she later graduated from St. Agnes High School.

On February 1, 1948, Rita married her beloved husband, Sharkey George. They shared 67 years of marriage until his passing in 2015, building a life rooted in love, commitment, and family.

Rita enjoyed traveling and was fortunate to visit destinations around the world, including Iraq (Sharkey's birthplace), Egypt, Hawaii, and Mexico. She especially cherished the trips she took with her granddaughters to New York, which brought her great joy and lasting memories.

Family was the most important part of Rita's life. She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother who gave her love generously. She will always be remembered for her dignity and style, and the grace with which she treated everyone she met.

Rita lived a long and productive life, touching many with her kindness and love. She will be deeply missed by her family and friends, and lovingly remembered always.

Rita was the devoted mother of Steve (Marilyn), Jim (Denise), Mary Dickow (Amir), Angela Lossia, and Tom (Carol). She was Gigi to 11 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, and is predeceased by two grandchildren. She is also survived by many wonderful nieces and nephews.

Funeral mass Friday January 23rd, 10am at St. Thomas Chaldean Catholic Church, 6900 W. Maple Rd, W. Bloomfield, MI.

Memorial Luncheon 12 noon to 2pm at Wabeek Country Club (valet parking).

Family Visitation 2 to 4pm at Wabeek Country Club (valet parking).
