Rita M. Howe, 91, of Kearney, Neb., passed away September 5, 2025, at Holdrege Memorial Homes.

Funeral Mass will be held 10:30 a.m., Friday, October 10, 2025, at Prince of Peace Catholic Church with Fr. Paul Colling officiating. Visitation with the family will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be held at the Belmont Cemetery in Milo, Iowa. Memorials are suggested to Prince of Peace Catholic Church. Rita was born March 2, 1934, at home near Lacona, Iowa to Forrest and Della (McNeer) VanderLinden. She grew up near Milo and graduated from Milo High School in 1952.

Rita married Charlie Howe July 6, 1957, in Milo. She worked as a secretary for Farmland Industries and was involved in the extensive transition from paper records to computer records. They lived in Des Moines, Iowa and Kansas City until retiring in 1987 in Indianola, Iowa. They moved to Rogers, Ark. in 1990 and then to Kearney in 2006. Rita was very devout and prayerful in her faith. She enjoyed attending her grandchildren's many activities, was a gracious and experienced hostess during family gatherings, and often shared her quick sense of humor. Rita was also an avid golfer and was proud of having recorded two holes in one in her lifetime.

Rita is survived by her sons, Scott and Michele Howe of Kearney, Dave and Dulce Howe of Yorktown, Va.; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Rita was preceded in death by her husband; daughter, Sally Howe; infant son, Andy Howe; and nine older siblings.
