Rita M. Laing

Rita Marie Laing was received by God on November 12, 2025 at the age of 95. She passed peacefully at her home in Riverview Michigan, in the comfort of family.
Rita was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur (2006), and her daughter, Marie Elizabeth (1960). She is survived by her children: Tom, Alan (Ann), Kathleen, Kevin (Laura), and Karen (Suzie); grandchildren: Jason Laing (Amanda Dotson), David Laing, Jennifer Broiles (Brian), Chelsea Greathouse (Aaron), Elizabeth Hinman (Alex), Matthew Laing, and Birkleigh Olstad; and great grandchildren Freya Careen Hinman, Chloe Ann Broiles, and Cooper Alan Broiles.
Born on May 29, 1930, to Thomas and Lorraine Dillon, Rita graduated from Slocum Truax High School, attended art school and worked as an Engineering Layout Clerk/Cartographer at Michigan Bell. She was proud to serve her country in support of the Army Corps of Engineers as a cartographer for the Nike sites.
She Married Art on June 15, 1957, and was devoted to supporting the family and family business, Clean Flo of Michigan. She was also active creatively, making numerous crafts for family, friends, and to support local organizations.
Rita (and Art) were charter members of the D-Rat-Pack chapter of the National Campers and Hikers Association, in which she held many offices, organizing weekend campouts throughout Michigan and Ontario. She continued camping into her 90's!
Rita was active in St. Cyprian's Ladies Guild from the 1960s until her passing, holding office as President, Treasurer, and Social Director. She organized many craft fairs to support the church.
Rita participated in the Riverview Senior Citizen Organization, organizing many activities (especially the 'hand-and-foot' card games). She was recognized by the city of Riverview as 2014 Senior Citizen of the Year. In 2023, she received the Riverview Citizen of the Year award.
Rita bowled in many leagues, including a 25 year run in the Golden Ages league ending in 2025. She also participated in Riverview's Senior Olympics in bowling and bocce ball. She put the family to shame in pick-up corn hole tournaments!
Rita was an avid Tigers fan from her teens until her passing. She attended many games and kept a complete record of scores for most of that time. In 2022, she celebrated her 90th (+1) birthday watching the Tigers win.
