Rita MacMurray Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Christopher T. Jordan Funeral Home on Feb. 9, 2026.
With heavy hearts we share the passing of Rita MacMurray, on February 4, 2026. She was 80 years young.

Family and friends were always at the center of Rita's life. She was a devoted single mother and grandmother whose greatest joy was time spent with family. Rita had a vibrant personality, fearless spirit, and was profoundly independent. The perfect blend of warmth and love, she was the greatest mother – a mentor, a protector, an unfailing supporter and an inspiration, a true gift to her only daughter. As a grandmother, Rita was happiest picking her grandchildren up from school, taking them on adventures around town, using her creative skills to craft and woodwork with them, she created magical experiences they will cherish for the rest of their lives.

A prolific storyteller, she brought infectious laughter to everyone lucky enough to know her. She loved to frequent thrift and antique stores, collecting meaningful pieces over the years that she proudly displayed in her home. She was an avid reader and loved live music and dancing. Rita had a huge heart, a generous nature and was a beacon of light that touched many lives. She lives on in the love she passionately shared and instilled in her family and friends.

Rita is survived by her devoted daughter Rita McCaffrey, her son in law Humberto Ricardo, her grandchildren Grace and Beckett, nieces, nephews, and cousins, as well as many dear friends.

She is predeceased by her mother and father, Rita and John Collins, her husband J. Richard MacMurray, her sister Margaret Sullivan, and her brothers John and Michael Collins.

The family will hold a private gathering after cremation. A Celebration of Life is planned for late spring, her favorite time of year.
