Rita M. (Emery) Shilling, age 76, of Brookville, PA, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, November 25, 2025, at home surrounded by her loving family. Rita was born in Front Royal, VA, on March 16, 1949, to the late Ralph L. and Hilda (Dempsey) Emery.

Rita graduated from high school in 1967.

Over the course of her career, Rita managed a day care from her home and later shifted her focus to becoming a health caregiver, providing support to countless families.

Rita married her true love, William H. Shilling, on December 29, 1967, in Emerickville, PA; he survives. Their marriage of over fifty-seven years was built on genuine love and a lifelong commitment to each other.

Rita was a member of the Immaculate Conception Church in Brookville, PA.

Rita enjoyed various outdoor activities such as hunting, fishing, and gardening. She had a special interest in her family genealogy.

Rita was dedicated to her family as a loving wife, mother, and grandmother.

She was greatly loved and will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

In addition to her husband William, Rita is survived by four children; Robert H. (Carissa) Shilling of Miles City, MT, Eric Scott (Marsha) Shilling of Milroy, PA, William J. Shilling of Brookville, PA, Jody M. Carroll of Brookville, PA; seven grandchildren; Amber (Cayden), Brandon (Stephanie Brown), Kyle, Emily, Chandler, Ivy, Wyatt; one great-grandchild; Dean; two brothers-in-law; John R. Shilling and Edward J. Shilling; as well as several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Rita was preceded in death by one brother-in-law; Richard Shilling; two sisters-in-law; Carol Shilling and Mona Shilling.

Interment will take place on Monday, December 1, 2025, beginning at 11:00 am, at the Emerickville Church of God Cemetery, Pine Creek Twp., Jefferson Co., PA, and officiated by Pastor Jeff Stahlman. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Carrier Funeral Home, 2834 Maplevale, Rd., Brookville, PA 15825.
