Rita Mary Thaman (née Collopy), age 94, passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 5, 2026, at her son’s residence, surrounded by her loving family.
Rita was the devoted wife of the late Raymond Paul Thaman, who preceded her in death on June 29, 2014. She was the loving and proud mother of Joseph Thaman (Susan West), Jane Thaman, Michael Thaman (Kathy), Mary Ann Gill (Bruce), Phillip Thaman (Eva Lutz), Paul Thaman (Vicky Finke), Theresa Thaman (Gary Foye), Leslie March (Jeff), Stephen Thaman (Paula), Raymond Thaman Jr. (Mhairi Creech), Christopher Thaman (Tina Burger) and Amy Fathman (Sean).
She was the cherished grandmother of 32 grandchildren and the beloved great-grandmother of 32 and counting.
Rita was the dear sister of Claire Heringer and was preceded in death by brothers Edward Collopy, Tom Collopy, and Jim Collopy and sisters Ann Egbers, Mary Wright and Sister Andrea Collopy.
Rita graduated from Holy Cross and received her RN training from St Elizabeth Hospital in Covington. A dedicated nurse, Rita devoted her life to caring for others, especially her grand children. She enjoyed golfing, playing cards and was known as a formidable Scrabble player, always ready to claim the triple-word score. She loved opera, a good manhattan, treasured time with friends and family, and above all else adored babies, whose presence brought her immense joy. A member of St. Pius X parish for over 50 years, she was a woman of quiet faith and her trust in the Lord sustained her in her long life.
Her warmth, humor, and devotion to family will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, March 14, 2026, from 10 am until 12 pm at St. Pius X Church in Edgewood. Words of remembrance will be at 11:45 am. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 12 pm. Burial will take place at Mother of God Cemetery. A celebration of Rita’s life will take place at the Devou Park Golf Course Clubhouse from 2 pm to 5 pm.
