Rita R. Vucic

Rita Rose Vucic, 84, formerly of Monroeville, passed away peacefully on Friday, August 15, 2025. She resided with her devoted caregiver, niece, and goddaughter, Deanne Duchek, and her husband, Steven Duchek. She was born on October 13, 1940, and is survived and was greatly loved by many nieces and nephews. She was the last remaining member of her family and was preceded in death by her parents, Michael and Rose Vucic, her four siblings (Irene Graczyk, Carmella Lorowski, Joseph Vucic Sr., and Michael Vucic), and her sister in Christ, Julie Hawan.

Rita worked as a first-grade teacher at Gateway School for 35 years, positively impacting the lives of more than 1,000 students during her teaching years. She belonged to the Mother of Sorrows Church in Murrysville. She was a faithful servant to the Lord throughout her life. Rita remained steadfast in her devotion to the Father, her faith, and the Blessed Mother Mary. Rita spent 54 years of her life with her sister in Christ and friend, Julie. Their bond and friendship were strengthened throughout the years that their families were united as one.

A special thank you to Rev. Ewin Rubido, who faithfully visited Rita every week and gave her communion. She always looked forward to his visits. Thank you to Monsignor Michael J. Begolly for visiting and praying with her. Thank you to Suncrest Hospice, which provided her with great care, and she appreciated her time spent with Chaplain Phil. And especially her nurse Francesca and her aide Chelsea, with whom they shared a special bond. Lastly, thank you for all the love and prayers we received from family and friends.

A memorial mass will be held on Wednesday, August 27, 2025 at 11 a.m., at St. Mary, Our Lady of Lourdes Church at 5900 Kennedy Ave., Export, PA 15632, with Monsignor Michael J. Begolly.
