Rita C. Yasinsky

Rita C. Yasinsky, 90, mother, nan and gram, of Arlington Street, Tamaqua, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 22, 2024, in her home while in the tender care of her family. She was the widow of Chester Yasinsky, who died in 1970.

Born on Monday, Sept. 18, 1933 in Lehighton, she was a daughter of the late Calvin and Edith (Yeck) Steigerwalt.

Rita was a graduate of Lehighton High School. She worked for the FBI in Washington, D.C., out of high school, and later returned to her family's homestead in Andreas. She became the postmaster of the Andreas Post Office, holding that position for over 30 years.

Widowed at a young age, Rita devoted her entire life to raising her children, providing a loving home and being a terrific Nan.

She was a faithful member of SS. Peter & Paul Roman Catholic Church in Lehighton.

In her spare time, she enjoyed gardening.

Surviving are a son, Doug Yasinsky, her caregiver; two grandchildren, Phillip Yasinsky and Sadie Serra; a great-granddaughter, Olivia Yasinsky; and many nieces and nephews.

She was also predeceased by a daughter, Stacie Louise Chapman; and two sisters, Dorothy Yeakel and Catherine Flounders.

Service: Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday, May 30 at SS. Peter & Paul Roman Catholic Church, 260 N. Third St., Lehighton, with the Rev. Christopher M. Zelonis officiating. Interment will be in the parish cemetery in Lehighton. Arrangements are entrusted to the Robert S. Nester Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 2066 W. Penn Pike, New Ringgold.
