Roamn Graber Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Spooner Funeral Home on Sep. 24, 2025.
Roman Tobias "Toby" Graber, age 83, of Spooner, WI, passed away Thursday, September 18, 2025 at Aspirus St. Luke's Hospital in Duluth, MN. He was born on June 28, 1942 in Rolette, ND, the son of Amos and Magdalena (Gingerich) Graber. He was united in marriage to Carolyn Fern Stichter on March 17, 1962 in Nappanee, Indiana.

Toby and Carolyn worked side by side for decades on their family farm in Burnett County. He loved working his field proudly in his beloved John Deere tractors. He grew up in Etna Green, IN, where he enjoyed athletics and was part of the 4X100 relay that held the school record for a very long time. He also enjoyed playing softball and basketball. Toby had musical talents, singing, playing the harmonica and was well known for whistling and singing while he worked. He enjoyed southern gospel music and had quite the album collection. Toby loved hunting, whether it was the fall classic of deer hunting or deal hunting at area auctions. He had a great sense of humor and was known to be quite the jokester. Toby had profound faith and was very involved in his church where he deeply appreciated his church family. Although he was personally frugal, he was very generous with both his time and money. He had a servant's heart and was always willing to help anyone in need. Toby and Carolyn supported kids through Compassion International for many years. He and his wife enjoyed spending their winters in Sarasota, Florida and made many dear friends down there. Toby enjoyed a good card game with his family and friends. Most of all, he was devoted to his family and will be remembered as a kind and loving man with a distinct twinkle in his eyes.

He is survived by his children, Curtis J. "Curt" (Pon Angara) Graber of Manilla, Philippines, Larry (Laura) Graber of Shell Lake, WI and Stanley "Stan" (Kristina) Graber of Greenfield, IN; his grandchildren, Nathan, Andrew, Zachary, Madalyn "Bee", Anthony, Benjamin, Alicia and Sarah; his great-grandchildren, Lyra, Sunni and Arthur; his siblings, Alvin (Dolores) Graber, John (Charlotte) Graber, Betty Nissley, Eunice (Floyd) Martin, Lucy Kaufman and Anna (Gene) Hochstetler; several nieces, nephews and dear friends.

In addition to his parents, Toby is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Carolyn Graber; two infant sons; his sister, Dorothy Maust; and his brothers-in-law, Homer Nissley, Vernon Kaufman and Clifford Maust.

Visitation will be held from 6:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. on Friday, October 3, 2025 at the Spooner Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, October 4, 2025 at the Spooner Church of the Nazarene, N4584 Highway 253, where visitation will be held from 10:00 A.M. until the hour of the service. Pastor Clifford Larrabee will officiate. Interment will be held privately.
