Robbie Best Leach of Charlotte passed away peacefully Monday, May 29, 2023 at Brookdale Weddington Park at the age of 94. She was born August 12, 1928 in Kinston, N.C., to the late James William Best and Elizabeth Creech Best. Robbie received a Bachelor of Arts degree in elementary education from Woman's College of the University of North Carolina in Greensboro (now UNC-G) in 1950. She taught two years at Edgewood School in Goldsboro, North Carolina. After her marriage to Hamer Leach in 1952, she moved to Charlotte and taught at Darita Elementary School and later was a substitute teacher in the Charlotte city schools. She was employed by Hartford Insurance Company from 1972 to 1979.
Robbie was an active member of Hickory Grove Presbyterian Church for many years where she served as a Brownie Scout leader, a deacon, and elder. She was active in the Women of the Church and the older adult organization.
Robbie is survived by two daughters, Teresa Hauser of Winston-Salem, N.C. and Ellen Barker of Charleston, S.C.; son-in-law David Whitley of Asheville, N.C.; and four grandchildren: Bryn Hauser, Byron Hauser, Jordan Barker and Jackson Barker. She was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years Hamer Jackson Leach of Raeford, N.C.; daughter Laura Leach Whitley of Asheville, N.C.; brother James W. Best, Jr. of Kinston, N.C.; and sister Peggy Curlee of Winston-Salem, N.C.
Services will be held Friday, June 2nd at 2:00pm at Albemarle Road Presbyterian Church.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Albemarle Road Presbyterian Church, 6740 Albemarle Rd, Charlotte, N. C. 28212 OR to Second Harvest Food Bank, 500 Spratt St B, Charlotte, N. C. 28206.
