Robert Charles Aguilera, known affectionately as Dougie, passed away on June 24, 2024, at the age of 77 in Johnstown, New York. Born on August 22, 1946, in Gloversville, New York, he was a lifelong resident of the area, cherished for his deep connection to the community and the natural world.
Robert's passion for the outdoors was evident through his hobbies which included gardening, landscaping, and finding solace and beauty in the world around him. He was also an ardent football enthusiast, having played semi-pro football with the Colonials and later coaching the team inspiring young athletes. His career at Browns Ford was marked by dedication and hard work, reflecting his strong work ethic which he also applied to his personal pursuits. He completed his education locally, attending Johnstown Middle School and Johnstown High School, before earning a bachelor's degree from Southern State College in Arkansas. His academic and professional journeys were foundational to his character, combining his love for learning with practical skills.
Robert is survived by his loving wife, Ann Hennessey, and their children, Nick, Mace, Kyle, and Holly Aguilera. He was a proud grandfather to Marissa Savage, Izik Waschak, Reece, Peytonn, Paisley, Caleb Billa, and Kyle Aguilera Jr. He also leaves behind his sister, Carol Cromer. He was preceded in death by his parents, Esther and Roberto Aguilera, and his brother, Timothy Aguilera.
Services to honor Robert's life will be held at Amico Funeral Home, located at 150 S Main Street in Gloversville, NY. Viewing will take place Monday July 1, 2024, from 11:00 to 12:30, followed by burial at Ever Green Cemetery in Fonda, NY. A reception will follow at Varin Enterprises LLC, 212 Stoner Trail Rd in Johnstown, NY. In lieu of flowers, contributions to support the family in this time of grief will be greatly appreciated. These gestures of support can be made during the services or coordinated with the family. Robert's life was a testament to his love for his family, his passion for the outdoors, and his commitment to his community. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
