Robert "Bobby" L. Allen, 88, of Newport, Kentucky, formerly of Dayton, Kentucky, passed away peacefully surrounded by family. Bobby was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Karen L Allen (nee Wininger), who passed in 2006. He is survived by his two daughters, Holly Bonar (George) of Walton, KY and Casey Allen (Alexander Hicks) of Covington, KY, and seven grandchildren: Katie, Eli, Josh, Hannah, Wallace, Rowan, and Eleanor, as well as many cherished grand-pets.
Born on January 5, 1937, Bobby spent most of his life in Dayton, where he dedicated himself to public service and community safety. He served as a police officer and detective for over 20 years in both Dayton and Bellevue and later continued his commitment to protection and care as an executive security guard with Federated Department Stores.
Bobby also served on the Dayton City Council for more than two decades, offering steady leadership and heartfelt advocacy for the town he loved. His career and civic service reflected a lifelong passion for helping others and keeping his community safe. But Bobby's legacy goes far beyond his titles. He was a deeply compassionate man, someone who would give you everything he had without hesitation. He loved animals, especially dogs (and even cats, though he'd never admit it), and he was a devoted fan of the Cincinnati Reds, cheering them on through every season. Bobby's greatest joy came from being a father and grandfather. He was endlessly proud of his daughters and grandchildren, never missing a chance to brag about their accomplishments, whether it was a good report card, a new job, or simply a kind gesture. He believed in showing up, in doing the right thing even when no one was watching, and in loving people exactly as they are. Bobby leaves behind a legacy of kindness, humor, and quiet strength. He had a quiet way of making people feel safe, seen, and valued. Whether it was a neighbor in need, a stray animal on the street, or a friend going through a hard time, Bobby was the kind of man who showed up with a steady hand and a full heart. His presence will be deeply missed, but his spirit lives on in every act of service, every corny joke, and every moment of courage to be unapologetically yourself.
