Robert “Bob” Amundson, Major, USAF, Retired

November 18, 1939 ~ January 24, 2022

Bob was born November 18, 1939 in Minneapolis and adopted as an infant by Leland and Agatha Amundson. He passed away peacefully on January 24, 2022 from complications of a fall. We want to sincerely thank the ER and ICU staff at Ogden Regional Medical Center for their compassion care and professionalism.

He graduated from West High School in Minneapolis and immediately enlisted into the United States Air Force serving a tour in Moron Air Base, Spain. Upon returning to the States, Bob enrolled at the University of Minnesota and received a BA in German. He then earned a M.S.Ed. from the University Southern California. Having participated in ROTC, he rejoined the Air Force as an officer and served in many capacities until 1981 retiring a Major.

He met his wife Lilo at the University of Minnesota in 1961 where she attended as a foreign exchange student from the University of Berlin. They were married in 1964 and celebrated their 57th anniversary last year. Bob truly enjoyed his military career.  He served two tours in Germany. Since he was fluent in German, he spent 3 years in Cologne as a liaison officer with the German Air Force. He served in Vietnam from 1970-1971. He finished his service at Hill AFB until retirement in 1981. He prided himself in having worked with the F-$ Phantom and F-16 Falcon programs.

After his retirement from military, he worked in Ogden School District as an administrator and then he was the superintendent of a school district in Western Washington for 5 years. He retired for the third time in 2005.

Bob was an avid reader of many types of genres. He especially enjoyed Harry Potter, something he shared with his 3 grandchildren, Tor, Britt, and Finn. He read all 7 books in English, British, German, and Norwegian versions. He enjoyed listening to classical music, tinkering with technology and his many computers.

Bob was preceded in death by both his parents and his younger son, Erik. His is survived by his wife, Lilo; son, Per; grandchildren, Tor, Britt, and Finn; and sisters, Karen and Gail.

A memorial service will be held at Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary, 3400 Washington Blvd with the time to be announced.
