Robert Edward Ando, "Bob" grew up in Detroit with his late Mom (Helen), Dad (Gabriel) and brother, Richard.
After graduating high school. He was drafted into the US Army and served in the Vietnam war as a private, working in construction.
After the war, he started a long career at DTE as an apprentice and became a lineman and retired as a foreman. He also worked in the IBEW as the secretary/treasurer.
During this time, he married Virginia Gilliam, and they had two children, Michael and Alicia. He adored his children. He bought a sailboat and loved to take them sailing in the Detroit River and Lake Erie.
Bob retired when he was 60 and picked up a career in golf. He loved to golf and had a regular daily tee time with friends.
He adopted Luke, a mixed breed lab, when he found the pup stranded on I-75. After Luke, he adopted Lucy. Both dogs were quite popular in Allen Park as Bob walked them about 5 miles every day, stopping for a dog biscuit or snack from friendly neighbors.
Beloved father of Michael (Joanne), Alicia (Robert) Kittle. Papa of Amanda (Jerry) Morgan, Hunter (Mallory) Kittle, Thomas Vara, Jessica (Eli) Gordon. He has seven lovely great grandchildren he cherished, beloved Jaylee, Kasie, Rylie, Aubree, Khloe, Dezie and Emma.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Michigan Humane Society and/or Allen Park Presbyterian Church.
Visitation will take place on Friday, October 25, 2024 at the Allen Park Chapel of the Martenson Family of Funeral Homes, 10915 Allen Rd. Allen Park, MI 48101, from 2:00 pm to 9:00 pm. Funeral service will take place on October 26, 2024 at the Allen Park Presbyterian Church, 7101 Park Ave. Allen Park, MI 48101, at 12:00 pm. He will lie in state at 11:00 am. There will be a procession to Woodmere Cemetery after the service.
