Robert R. Applegarth, 71, of Bentonville, passed away on January 4, 2025, at Willard Walker Hospice in Fayetteville. He was born August 8, 1953, in LeRoy, Kansas to Ray D. Applegarth and Virginia Lucille Hubbert. He graduated from Holton High School (KS) in 1971. He attended two years of college.
He worked for TRG, an Alter Trading Company, for 16 years. As many know, he was a workaholic, but his passions were caring for wildlife and getting to know his friends and family. He was also an avid sports fan which shined brightly during tailgating season and in his conversations. During his lifetime, he was an entrepreneur, was on numerous community boards in Benton County, and was instrumental in getting the bridge across the train tracks on Highway 72 in Gravette in place. He enjoyed steam tractors, gardening, and reading.
He was preceded in death by his father (Ray), mother (Virginia), stepmother (Jean), infant daughter (Jasmine), father-in-laws J.W. DePriest and Dean Griffin, and brother-in-laws Ronnie DePriest and Jerry Wayne Biggs.
He is survived by his wife, Gerry Lynn, of 36 years, his sisters Susan Lewis (Brian) of Americus (GA), Deborah Babin (Wayne) of LaPlace (LA), Kim Amin (Najah) of Moreno Valley (CA), Julie Sutton (David) of Wichita (KS), their combined four children: Chenoa Sowa (Robert) of Washington D.C., Risa Applegarth and Matthew Loyd of Greensboro (NC), Dakota Applegarth of Springfield (MO), and Mike L. Jeffcoat (Lora) of Centerton (AR), 6 grand-children, and many nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his sister-in-laws Marianne Biggs (Jerry Wayne, deceased) and Carolyn Jones (Jerry), and his mother-in-law Sarah Griffin.
Honorary pallbearers will be Paul Reagan, Don Hawkins, David Sutton, Hurley Browning, Jon Sapp,Greg Sapp, Dean Ihry, Scott Kelly, Mike D. Jeffcoat, and Randy Frailey.
Services will be held Saturday, January 11, 2025, at 11 AM at Sisco Funeral Chapel in Springdale with Eddie Davis officiating. Visitation will be Friday, January 10, 2025, from 5pm to 7pm at the funeral home.
Donations in his memory may be made to the National Audubon Society to protect birds and their habitats or for many different animals at the Benton County Humane Society.
