Robert Clayton Arris, born on November 6, 1939, in Chambersburg, Pennsylvania, passed away peacefully on June 5, 2025, at the age of 85. At the time of his passing, he resided at the William R. Courtney State Veterans Home in
Temple, Texas. A man of faith, Robert was moderately religious, embracing Christianity throughout his life.
Robert's journey began with an honorable service in the United States Army, where he earned the Good Conduct Medal, Marksman Badge, Sharpshooter Badge, and received two Letters of Appreciation. His dedication and discipline in the military set a strong foundation for his future endeavors.
Following his service, Robert wore many different hats. He owned a short haul trucking company, A&W Delivery Service, Irving, TX. He was a Regional Manager for Texas Association of Business, Irving, TX. Numerous customer facing positions, including Vice President of Marketing for National Telephone Exchange, Personnel Manager and Safety Task Force Chairman for Strausburger Enterprises, Transportation Director for Temple Independent School District, and lastly, Realtor with Joan Mikeska Realty, all of
Temple, TX. While with Joan Mikeska Realty, Robert was recognized for his exceptional professionalism and commitment. He held a Real Estate License and the MCE Designation of Accredited Buyer's Representative. His accolades included the Extra Mile Award, GRI Graduate of Realtor Institute, Realtor of the Year Award, and the Good Neighbor Award.
Robert's influence extended beyond his professional achievements; he served as the Past Exalted Ruler of the Benevolent Protective of Elks, was involved with the Citizens Police Academy, and contributed significantly to the Temple
Salvation Army Advisory Board as well as many others.
Deeply rooted in his community, Robert actively participated in numerous organizations. He was a dedicated member of the Temple-Belton Board of Realtors, Temple Independent School District Special Education Board, and Temple Education Foundation. His commitment to community service was evident in his involvement with the Downtown Temple Association, City of Temple Downtown Redevelopment Program Board, Temple South Rotary Club, ROOTS Business Referral Organization, Safe Kids Mid-Texas, and the Temple Chamber of Commerce. His contributions were acknowledged with the Businessman of the Year Special Olympics award.
Robert was a man who never met a stranger, always willing to lend a helping hand, and cherished his family dearly. Robert was predeceased by his father, John Arris, his mother, Mary Arris, his wife, Mary Jane Arris, and his sister, Patti Spellman. He leaves behind a loving family, including his son, Randy, and wife Tonia, along with their sons, Randy Jr., Carson, and Caleb. In addition, daughter Rachel, her husband Ronnie, and their daughters, Danielle, Megan, and Stephanie. He also had great-grandsons, Kolton, Kason, and Troy, as well as great-granddaughters, Kacie, Anastasia, Ariella, Riley, and Sophia. Last, but not least, his beloved friend and partner, Eula Jett.
A celebration of Robert's life will be held on Tuesday, June 17th, at 11:00 am at the Hewett-Arney Funeral Home, located at 14 W. Barton Avenue,
Temple, TX 76501. A graveside service will follow on Wednesday, June 18th, at 10:00 am at the Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery, 11463 State Highway 195, Killeen, TX 76542.
Robert Clayton Arris's legacy of service, commitment, and love will be remembered and cherished by all who knew him. His life was a testament to the impact one individual can have through dedication to both career and community.
