Robert Benner Jr., age 73 of Gatesville, passed away on Friday, May 2, 2025.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 8, 2025 at Scott’s Funeral Home with Minister Justin Hall officiating. Interment will follow at Turnersville Cemetery. The family will welcome visitors from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Wednesday evening at the funeral home.
Robert Leon Benner Jr. was born on May 17, 1951 to the late Robert and Wynonia Williams Benner in Temple, Texas. He grew up and attended school in Troy, graduating from Troy High School in 1971. On May 8th of that same year, he married his high school sweetheart, Brenda Stone. They initially made their home in Temple, where he worked as a truck driver for Pure Milk, Coca Cola Distributors and several other companies. After moving around the state, he and his family settled in Gatesville in 1994, buying property near the Jonesboro and Turnersville communities. Robert also served as a security officer for the VA Administration and for Southern Security, where he was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant. He enjoyed hunting, horseback riding, raising his goats and collecting guns. He loved his family, and more than anything, always enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.
Robert was preceded in death by his parents, Robert, Helen, and Wynonia. He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Brenda Benner; son, Lee Benner and wife, Vickie; daughter, Wendy Garcia and husband, Jason; brothers, Charles Benner and wife, Theresa, Arthur Benner, and Phillip White; sisters, Nonia Renz and husband, Donald, Linda Swanzy, and Theresa Guardado and husband, Simon; grandchildren, Amanda, Kristiana, Jessica, Kaley, Kody, and Jason Jr.; great grandchildren, Dylan, Kyleigh, Katie, Brantley (outlaw), Layla, Aiden, Mason, Nathan, and Christopher; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Shriners Children’s Hospital, 2900 Rocky Point Drive, Tampa, FL 33607, or to St. Jude’s, 501 St. Jude’s Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
