COOKEVILLE CHAPEL-Mr. Robert Herman Bilyeu of Baxter, passed away peacefully at his residence on January 18, 2025. Born on November 21, 1940, in Algood, Tennessee, Robert enjoyed a life dedicated to family and service.
With a career spanning over 30 years in the Tennessee National Guard, Robert exemplified commitment and bravery, serving his country with honor in the Tennessee Army National Guard. His military service was a significant part of his life, one that undoubtedly shaped his character and values.
Robert graduated from Algood High School in 1958 and pursued a lifetime of learning. Known for his enthusiasm in computer work and genealogy, he had a deep interest in uncovering family histories that celebrated the legacies of those who came before him. Additionally, Robert had a knack for electrical work, a pursuit that always kept him engaged and fulfilled.
Robert leaves behind his devoted wife of 59 years, Lois West Bilyeu, who shared a life filled with love and companionship. Together, they raised a loving family that includes their son, David and his wife Sarah Bilyeu; and their daughter, Dana and her husband Bobby McWilliams, all of Baxter. He was also a proud grandfather to Robert Tyler (Kristen) McWilliams, Koby (Kristin) McWilliams, Austyn McWilliams, Jace McWilliams, and Keegan Bilyeu. Robert was blessed to be a great-grandfather to Robert Grayson McWilliams, Weston McWilliams, Jordan McWilliams, and Callie McWilliams.
In addition to his immediate family, Robert was preceded in death by his parents, Alva Herman Bilyeu and Willie Beatrice Reid Bilyeu; as well as his sisters, Bonnie Bilyeu and Edna Qualls; and his brother, George Bilyeu.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, January 21st at 11:00 a.m. at the Cookeville Chapel of Hooper,Huddleston & Horner Funeral Home. James Bowlin will officiate. Interment will follow at Crest Lawn Cemetery.
His family will receive friends Monday evening from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., and again Tuesday morning from 9:00 a.m. until service time at the funeral home.
Tyler McWilliams, Koby McWilliams, Austyn McWilliams, Jace McWilliams, Bobby McWilliams and Mitchell Lewis will serve as pallbearers.
