Robert Altland Blessing, 89, beloved husband of Barbara “Joan” Birdsall Blessing, passed away Friday, September 12, 2025.
Born in Harrisburg, PA, he was a son of the late William Altland Blessing and Mary Frances Frey Blessing.
Mr. Blessing was a graduate of Elizabethtown College in PA with a degree in Business Administration. He was an underwriter for Aetna Life and Casualty until his retirement. Following retirement, he worked at the Greenville Art Museum.
Bob met his wife, Barbara Joan, during his senior year in college, and they have been married for 67 years. He enjoyed spending time with his family. He was a member of Buncombe Street Methodist Church, a member of the Northern Masonic Scottish Rite, and was a Shriner.
Surviving are his wife of 67 years, Barbara Joan; his children, Jay Blessing (Tracy), Wayne Blessing (Kim), Tim Blessing, and Patti Garrett (Chris); grandchildren, Joshua Blessing, Paul and Lydia Garrett; great-grandchildren, Delaney and Julian Blessing. Also surviving are nieces, Susan Wilhelm-Sellers, Barbara Wilhelm (Thomas), and Nancy Wilhelm-Evans (James); and a nephew, William “Billy” Wilhelm.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his sister, Sara Jane Wilhelm, and her husband, Richard “Larry” Wilhelm.
A memorial service for Bob will be held on Saturday, September 27, 2025, at 11:00 AM in the chapel of Robinson Funeral Home-Downtown, 305 W. Main Street, Easley, SC 29640.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The Congregation Care Fund at Buncombe Street Methodist, 200 Buncombe Street, Greenville, SC 29601.
