Robert "Bob" Aldrich, a cherished husband, devoted family man, and longtime resident of Indianapolis, passed away peacefully on March 4, 2025, at the age of 86. Born on August 7, 1938, in Cleveland, Ohio, Bob dedicated 48 years of his life as a material handler with Ford, where he was known for his incredible work ethic and spirit of camaraderie.
Bob's character was shaped by the values instilled in him by his parents, Robert and Hilda Aldrich. He exemplified the qualities of an original gentleman, radiating kindness and generosity to all who had the pleasure of crossing his path. Friends and family alike will remember him as the most wonderful person—always ready to lend a helping hand, even to those he didn't know well.
For 59 blissful years, Bob shared his life with his beloved wife, Patricia "Patty" Aldrich. He was always her knight in shining armor, showcasing an unwavering devotion that defined their relationship. Bob and Patty created countless memories together, particularly enjoying their time spent at the S and H campground, where laughter and love flourished among family and friends.
Bob had a zest for life that extended beyond his work and family. He found joy in camping adventures, creating unforgettable moments with his family during visits to Disney, and indulging in his passions for fishing and bowling. Notably, he won his first bowling trophy at the tender age of 9, and his enthusiasm for sports never waned; he was a devoted fan of Nascar, the Michigan Wolverines, Ohio State Basketball, Detroit Lions and Indianapolis Colts.
Bob and Patty’s live together always had some sort of excitement during their adventures. Patty fondly remembers one of the many times they went to Disney World, and it was her birthday. During the visit Bob and Patty were have the best time, laughing and holding hands, when a cast member approached them and asked them an unexpected question. He asked if they liked parades, the couple replied yes, then he asked if they would like to Grand Marshal the parade. Long story short, Bob and Patty were the grand marshals of a Disney world parade!
Another fond memory of their adventures included an unexpected delayed flight. Bob, who never knew a stranger, started conversation with the copilot on the flight. Eventually started talking to the pilot who turned out to know of one of his past supervisors from the Ford plant. He asked Bob if he would like to see the cockpit. Of course, Bob did not want to miss this opportunity, he sat in the copilot’s seat overjoyed with excitement. As he sat there with the pilot, the pilot announced that the day’s flight will be flown by Bob Aldrich! Him and Patty were over the moon with such an honor. The two of them have shared many wonderful and exciting adventures together. These memories will always fill Patty and her family’s hearts.
His legacy will be carried on by his loving wife, Patty, his sister Janet Franklin, and his treasured nephews and nieces—Ron (Lisa) Franklin, David (Carol) Franklin, Denise Tames, and Laura (Paul) Christian. Bob held a special place in the hearts of many great nieces and nephews who cherished time spent with him. His bond with his precious cat, Bella Ann, brought additional warmth in his life, reminding all of us of the simple joys that can be found in the companionship of our furry friends.
Bob is preceded in death by his dear parents, Robert and Hilda Aldrich, as well as his beloved sister Carol Thomas and niece Gayle Franklin. Each of them holds a cherished place in Bob’s heart, and their memory will forever be a part of his story.
As we reflect on the beautiful life of Bob Aldrich, let us hold tight to the memories he gifted us and aspire to embody the kindness and grace he shared so freely. Bob's spirit will continue to inspire and touch the lives of all who knew him, reminding us every day of the importance of love, family, and unwavering support for one another.
