Robert was born in Clearfield to Manji and Shizu Nakano Miya. He attended Syracuse Elementary, North Davis Jr. High, and graduated from Davis High School. He served in the United States Army from 1961 to 1967.
Robert’s passions were dance and music. He was a Dance Instructor at Arthur Murray Dance Studio in Salt Lake City, Utah and in California. In 1971, he moved to Virginia Beach, Virginia to further his career. He worked in several studios until he went on his own and became a Ballroom Dance Instructor. He and his students performed at many tournaments and special events. His other love was singing, and he joined several choirs. He loved to sing as a baritone for the Sounds of Joy Choir. They traveled all over performing at special events.
Robert is survived by his siblings, Gary and Diane Miya of Plano, Texas; Marie Hirabayashi of Syracuse, Utah; and Beth Kuroiwa of Sugarland, Texas; as well as many nieces and nephews.
Robert was preceded in death by his parents; sister and brother-in-law, Kiyoko and Paul Okawa; and brothers-in-law, George Hirabayashi and Terry Kuroiwa.
The family would like to thank all his friends in Virginia for taking care of Robert (Bob). We especially like to thank his best friends Joan Kennedy, Joan Jasser, and Darren Burrus.
