Robert F. Viands, 82, “Bob” and also affectionately known as “Wata” by family and friends. Bob died peacefully on Friday, August 5, 2022 at the Lower Cape Fear LifeCare Center in Wilmington, NC. He was born in Washington D.C. on June 6, 1940 to the late Richard Moore Viands and Anne Allen Viands and was the husband of 61 years to Sarah Pitts Viands who survives.

Bob retired as the general superintendent at Bovis Lendlease Company. He served in the US Army from 1961-1963 and was stationed at Ft. Jackson, SC and Seoul Korea.

Survivors other than his wife, Sarah Viands include his daughters, Candace Swaim and husband Mark of Winston-Salem, NC and Kimberly Tausch and husband Mike of Jacksonville, NC; grandsons,  Justin Swaim and wife Mandy of Tampa, FL, Chandler Swaim USAF of Clovis, NM, Austin Tausch and wife Taylor USAF of Shreveport, LA, and Noah Tausch of Raleigh, NC; a great grand-daughter, Audrey Swaim; brothers, Charles Viands of Brandon, FL and George Viands of Asheville, NC along with many loved nieces and nephews. Bob was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Richard Viands.

The Family would like to express their gratitude for the compassionate and loving care that was given to Bob through the VA Hospitals at Fayetteville, NC and Durham, NC and the loving support of the nursing staff and home health professionals of Lower Cape Fear LifeCare.

A memorial service to celebrate Bob’s life will be held at 11:00AM Saturday, October 29, 2022 at Lowe Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Kevin Kilbreth. The family will receive friends following the service.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial gifts be made to Lower Cape Fear LifeCare in Wilmington, NC www.lifecare.org or to the American Bible Society www.americanbible.org. You may send condolences and watch the service online at www.lowefuneralhome.com.
