Robert (“Bob”) Shelby Wise, 90, of Edgemont, departed this life on Saturday, December 17, 2022. He was born December 30, 1931, in Wilmar, Arkansas to Sidney A. and Sarah A. Wise. Bob was a loving husband, father, “Granpa” and “Great-Granpa” and will be missed by his family and numerous friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, George and Beau; and daughter, Rebecca Frakes. Bob is survived by his wife of 50 years, Twyla Wise; daughter, Debora Sigler (Stephen) of Hemet, California; five grandchildren, Jason Sigler (Martina) of Carlsbad, California, Joshua Sigler of Murrieta, California, Lindsey Sigler of Winchester, California, Melissa Frakes of Plymouth, Illinois, and Sarah Chavez (Daniel) of Homewood, Illinois; and nine great-grandchildren, Bailey McKinnon and Emilee Strand, both of Winchester, California, Cody Sigler of Murrieta California, Liara and Logan Sigler, both of Carlsbad, California, Norma and Cody Sappington, both of Plymouth, Illinois, Claudia and Louisa Chavez, both of Homewood, Illinois and a host of other loving relatives and friends.
As a 30-year member of the U.S. Air Force, Bob distinguished himself with the Audit Agency, earned a bronze star as well as numerous other merits and distinguished service accolades and retired as a Chief Master Sargant with the USAF Audit Agency. He was a veteran of both the Korean War, serving in Japan during that conflict, and the Vietnam War, serving two tours of duty at Bien Hoa Air Base in Vietnam. Bob was well-respected by officer and enlisted personnel alike.
After retiring from the Air Force, Bob returned to college to finish his bachelor’s degree in administration at California State College San Bernardino graduating in June 1988. After graduation, he went on to work for the County of San Bernardino as an administrator until he decided to truly retire in 1994.
While living in southern California, Bob and his wife Twyla enjoyed boating many weekends on Lake Mead in Nevada and Arizona and he became a member of the Coast Guard Auxiliary. To continue the boating theme and live closer to his brother George, and his family, when they retired, Bob and Twyla bought property in the community of Mystic Isle in Edgemont, Arkansas on Greers Ferry Lake. They built a beautiful home there and Bob was very active in the community including serving as president of the Mystic Isle Property Owners Association for a number of years.
Visitation will be from 10:30 am to 11:30 am with memorial services from 11:30 am to 12:30 pm on Thursday, January 5, 2023, at Smith Sherwood Funeral Home, 7700 AR-107, Sherwood, Arkansas 72120, (501) 834-1191, followed by an interment ceremony with full military honors at 1 pm at Arkansas State Veterans Cemetery, 1501 Maryland Avenue, North Little Rock, Arkansas 72120.
