Robert E. "Bogie" Borghardt, Jr. age 63, of Jefferson City, died peacefully on October 18, 2023, at his home after a long illness.
He was born on February 20, 1960, in Jefferson City, the first child of Robert E. and Barbara A. (Durham) Borghardt. The love and memories from his parents stayed with him until his death.
He was married on January 27, 1979, to Annette M. Overkamp at Immaculate Conception Church by Fr. Richard Cronin. He loved her until his last breath. She was his first priority.
His father served as coach during his young baseball playing days and he learned many lessons about sports and life through those formative years. He shared a special bond with his father through baseball. He enjoyed all sports, but baseball, specifically cardinal baseball, was his favorite. His parents taught him self-worth, respect for others and a love of old movies, games, cards and spending time with family. His parents were the largest influence of his life.
He mentored countless young people as they started their first job. He had the ability to make young people feel comfortable and at ease. He was well liked and enjoyed making people laugh. He had a wonderful group of loyal friends with whom he bowled and played slow pitch softball for many years. He was a story teller. The good stories were told occasionally and the best stories were told over and over. A smile on the listener's face encouraged him. He envied any man whose wife allowed him to grow a full, thick, manly beard.
He graduated from Jefferson City High School in 1978. He worked in the fast-food industry for over 30 years; at Brady's Glass & Paint from 2006 to 2018; and at the Mo. Dept. of Revenue from 2018 until illness forced his retirement in May 2021.
He was proud to be the father of two wonderful children who were good students and skilled athletes, both of whom grew up to be fine mothers. They gave him seven grandchildren, who were his pride and joy. His happiest years were those watching his children play grade school, high school and college sports, the best of those being when they were wearing the Helias uniform.
Survivors include his wife of 44 years, Annette; their children Laura Borghardt (Kristie Douglas) of Columbia, MO, and Susan (Max) Rademan of Jefferson City, MO; his grandchildren, Zoey, Braxton, Maddox, Lily, Michael, Eysan and Ethan; one sister, Annaliese (Brian) Schultz of Jefferson City; one brother, Matthew (Tabitha) Borghardt of New Bloomfield; his nieces and nephews, Lenzie, Amy, Tyler and Devin; and his wife's siblings Bob Overkamp, Kitty (Ron) Fleschute, Angie Kinworthy, Eileen (Alan) Kemple, Maureen (Ron) Quinn, Tricia (Terry) Carrender, Hank (Kendall) Overkamp; his brother-in-law Denny Cuddihee; along with his wife's numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be 2-3:30 p.m. Saturday, October 21, 2023, at Trimble Funeral Homes – Jefferson City. A service will follow at 3:30 p.m. at which time, per his request, the sad part will be short and the celebration part will be long.
The family requests no flowers, plants or trinkets. Memorial contributions may be made to the Helias Athletic Booster Club, 1305 Swifts Highway, Jefferson City, MO 65109.
