Gary Lee Borghardt, 67, of California, MO passed away on Friday, May 24, 2024 in California, MO. He was born March, 5, 1957 to Roy Lee and Helen (Plaster) Borghardt at the Latham Sanitarium Hospital in California, MO.
Gary attended Clarksburg Grade School all eight years and graduated from California High School in 1975. In high school he was a member of the Future Farmers of America (FFA). He started working for MFA in California, MO while in high school and after graduation he worked in the feed mill and drove the semi-tractor trailer hauling grain for over 20 years. He enjoyed going to the farms and visiting with the farmers. He had many stories from his truck driving days. Gary then worked for Cargill Processing Plant driving a truck and then worked for Burgers Smokehouse for a short time. In January 2005 his last job was with the Missouri Sate Prison Correction Center in Tipton, MO. He retired from the prison in January 2021 due to ill health. He raised cattle and spent many hours on the family farm that his parents owned.
He was a faithful member of the Saint Paul's Lutheran Church in California, MO and was baptized on Dec. 14, 1988. Gary always brought his mother to church when she was able and hardly ever missed a Sunday. He was very diligent in his job duties as an usher.
Gary is survived by his sister, Pamela (James) Mason of Jamestown, MO; niece, Lesley (Christopher) Schmidt, and 2 great nephews, Jackson and Colton Schmidt all of Belton, MO as well as aunts, uncles and cousins. Gary was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, May 30, 2024 from 10:00 A.M.-11:00 A.M. with the service immediately following at 11:00 A.M. all at the funeral home. Officiating will be Pastor Evandro Kopper. Burial will be at the California Masonic Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to St. Paul's Radio Ministry, 207 N. Owen St, California, MO or the California Masonic Cemetery c/o the funeral home. Arrangements are under the direction of Bowlin- Cantriel Funeral Services of California, MO.
