Robert A. Britton, 90, of Nutley, passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 12, 2026. Born and raised in Newark, NJ, he attended St. Michael's Grammar and High Schools. He has resided in Nutley since 1967. Robert was the son of the late Addison and Virginia (Cook) Britton. He served in the U.S. Army from 1958-1960 and was honorably discharged after serving in the Infantry. During the eighteen months, he was stationed in Germany and was a member of the Army traveling baseball and football teams. Robert was a member of the Insulators Local 32 Union in Highland Park, NJ for many years. He also had the opportunity to work on the Alaskan Pipeline from 1976-1977. A big lover of sports, especially baseball, Robert was an avid Boston Red Sox fan and a "closet" Yankee fan.

Robert had been actively involved coaching youth for a number of years beginning with the Nutley Central Little League and then onto coaching for Good Shepard Academy Girls Softball Team.

Robert was a lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus 835 in Belleville. He was also a member of the Nutley Elks since 1982 and served on the Convention Committee, Co-Chairman of the Youth Activities as well as the Veterans Committee. Robert also served as a Past Exalted Ruler, Past District Deputy Grand Exalted Ruler and Past Vice-President of the North Central District.

Robert is survived by his devoted wife, Barbara, his children Robert M. (Daphne) and Mary Ann Pettit (Harry); his brother James Britton (Angela), his Brother-in-law, George Daudelin and Sister-in-law, Annette, his Brother-in-law, David Roemer and his late Sister-in-law Patricia and five grandchildren Deanna, Chase, Isabella, Andy, and Alex. He was predeceased by his siblings John (Jack) Britton and Elizabeth (Betty) Grogan and her late husband James. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews whom he adored.

The funeral will be Wednesday, March 18, 2026, 9:30AM from the S.W. Brown & Son Funeral Home, (www.swbrownandson.com), 267 Centre St., Nutley.

The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30AM at Holy Family Church, Nutley.

The interment will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, East Hanover.

Visitors will be received at the funeral home on Tuesday, March 17th from 4:00PM – 7:00PM.
