Robert L. Brooks, 88, Topeka, Kansas, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family, Sunday, September 28, 2025. Robert was born at home in Moran, Kansas on April 23, 1937, the son of Earle and Lola Vest Brooks. He graduated from Moran High School and attended Fort Scott Junior College. In October of 1955, Robert and Nancy A. Senseney were united in marriage, enjoying almost 70 years together. Nancy passed September 25, 2025. For several years Robert was employed by Mack Colt Oil Company in Allen County Kansas. Moving to Topeka in 1969, Robert was self-employed as a grocer, owning and operating Mike's IGA. He was a member of West Side Christian Church for many years. Fishing, traveling, and following his kids, grandkids and great-grandkids sports and school activities were some of his favorite pastimes. Survivors include his children, Dan Brooks (Kim), Robyn Case (Marlin), David Brooks (Donna) and Darrin Brooks; grandchildren, Justin Case, Kacy Brooks, Ryan Brooks, Adam Brooks, Jana Ingalsbe, Emily Burgoon and Makayla Brooks; 18 great-grandchildren; and his sister, Vesta Sue Cheatham (Flem). Robert was preceded in death by his sisters, Earlene Van Houtan and Velma Dennis. A double funeral service for Robert and his beloved wife of 70 years, Nancy Brooks, who passed September 25, 2025, will be Saturday, October 25, at West Side Christian Church at 10 a.m. Inurnment will be private at Foster Cemetery, Topeka. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to West Side Christian Church and Brewster Foundation, sent in care of Kevin Brennan Family Funeral Home, 2801 SW Urish Road, Topeka KS 66614. I worked at Mike´s IGA for Bob. It was my first job. He was a firm and kind man. He taught me a lot. I met his son Dan at Mike´s IGA, what a great guy he is too. Those were great days, I fondly remember them. My sympathy goes out to all the family. Bob was a great man.

I had the privilege of meeting Mr Brooks several years ago I delivered his Meds to him. Each time I did it was a cherished moment for me, I was always greeted with a big "hello and how are you doing" then we´d converse on many subjects and had lots of fun doing so. I´ll miss this moment. I cried when I heard of his passing but I know where he is now without a doubt he´s with his precious wife Nancy in heaven. I´ll miss you .
