Obituary Robert Lee Bunton
In loving memory of Robert Lee Bunton, a beacon of light and love who graced this world from February 5, 1939 to August 18th, 2025. Robert was a cherished son, brother, husband, father and friend whose presence brought joy to all who knew him. Born in Woodburn, Kentucky, Robert was raised in a close- knit family that instilled in him values of hard work and consistency.
In his early years, Robert was a part of a du-wop group and his first date with is future wife Barabara was a fish fry where he performed. He served in the US Army for several years as a paratrooper. He moved to Rochester, NY in search of work and the adventures of a northern city at the behest of his Uncle Joe D. Throughout his time in Rochester, he worked two jobs for most of his life. He worked as a mechanic for Kodak for many years, but he also worked in asphalting; first for his Uncle Joe D, then his friend Ray Bell and eventually Ray's son Bobby up until Robert was 80 years old. He was very generous with his talents and would work on friends and family's cars, and snow plow neighbors driveways for free. While his work life was very consistent, he had many side missions including but not limited to exploring a run for political office and becoming a band manager for Soul Express who played in clubs throughout Rochester, Buffalo, and Niagara Falls.
Throughout his life, Robert was a man of few words and about 75% of those words were snarky. Many a family member can remember being greeted with a "Hey Ugly!" He maintained his quick and sarcastic wit even up to his transitional period. He loved to play cards with his family and was known for cheating, which only worsened as he aged. His love was not grand gestures, it was the consistency that his wife, daughter, grandchildren and great grandchildren came to know and trust. It was the breakfast and coffee dates, the watching westerns, and eating Oreos and the hard work we knew we could expect from him.
Robert was predeceased by his mother, Ollie Harriet Bunton, father Jewel Bowens, brothers, James Marshall Simmons and French Thomas Bunton, and his wife Barbara (Odom) Bunton from whom he was inseparable.
Robert is survived by his daughter Roberta (Nathan), his grandchildren Sierra (Kevin), DeAndre, and Jalen (Brandy), his great grandchildren, Isabelle, Amelia, Zy'anna, Massaquoi, Makalo, Braelynn and Ely'Ahni and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.

My condolences to the family. My heart is heavy . He was such a beautiful person. He used to snow plow for me sometimes. We lived on the same street and his wife and I worked in the same field . Two beautiful people. He will truly be missed.
