Obituary published on Legacy.com by Shikany's Bonita Funeral Home on May 10, 2023.
Robert J. Burger, formerly of Holmdel and Fair Haven, NJ passed away peacefully on May 8, 2023 at his son's home in Naples, Florida. He was born on June 27, 1929 to Edward and Mary Burger in New York, NY, and grew up in Elmhurst.
He served in the US Army during the Korean War where he trained in telecommunications. Upon his discharge, he began his career at Bell Laboratories as a technical writer. In 1953 he married his wife Dorothy and they settled in Holmdel, NJ where they raised their three children, twins Robert and William and daughter Karen. He was active in the community, coaching Little League in the HYAA and he was a founding member of the Holmdel Tennis Club.
Following his retirement from Bell Labs, he started his own telecommunications business before moving to Florida in 2016. Bob had a zest for life and enjoyed skiing, tennis, golf and baseball and he was a lifelong Yankees fan. He loved New York City and would spend many weekends there enjoying all it had to offer. He was a wonderful father and grandfather, and he will be missed immensely. He loved living every day, hour, minute, and second.
He was predeceased by his parents; his brother, Charles; and sister, Elizabeth.
He is survived by his son, Robert and his wife Lindsay, son, William and wife Donna, daughter, Karen and husband Keith; eight grandchildren, Daniel, Raquel, Alexa, Dylan, Nicollette, Carolyn, Lauren and Matthew; and several nieces and nephews.
He will be laid to rest at Sarasota National Cemetery.
