Robert L. "Sonny" Burns October 6, 1933 ~ October 28, 2025 Robert L. "Sonny" Burns, beloved husband, father, and grandfather, passed away at home on Tuesday, October 28th, 2025. Born on October 6, 1933, in Grandfather Mountain, NC, and raised in Elizabethton, TN, Sonny lived a full and meaningful life rooted in faith, family, and service.
A proud veteran of the United States Air Force, Sonny honorably served his country during the Korean Conflict. His dedication and love for his nation remained a defining part of who he was throughout his life.
Sonny was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Charlsie L. (Beaver) Burns; his second wife, Ruthann (Fisher) Burns; his precious grandson, Jason Straubhaar, who lovingly called him "Pa Paw"; and his son-in-law, Alan Straubhaar.
He is survived by his devoted daughter and son-in-law, Linda Straubhaar-Foose and Michael Foose of Litchfield, OH, along with many extended family members and friends who will cherish his memory.
Sonny dedicated 29 years of service to Westinghouse in Cleveland, Ohio. In addition, he operated his own roofing and cleaning business, exemplifying his strong work ethic and determination. Following his retirement, he continued giving back through his work with the Senior Helping Seniors organization. A man of many talents, Sonny loved to cook and took great joy in spending time with his grandson. A lifelong sports fan, he could often be found cheering on his favorite baseball and football teams.
Those who knew Sonny remember him as a kind, hardworking, and generous man who left a lasting impact on everyone he met. He will be deeply missed. In keeping with Sonny's wishes, there will be no calling hours or services.
