Robert (Bob) Louis Buscher, of Falmouth, a beloved 7th-grade math teacher at Lawrence School and Falmouth Girls' Varsity Basketball coach for 30 years, died on November 21, 2025, after a long battle with cancer. He was 62.
Born to Elizabeth (Carbine) and Louis Buscher in Farmingdale, NY, Bob grew up in the small town of Willow, NY in the Catskill Mountains. He spent his childhood exploring the woods and mountains he loved. He attended Onteora High School, where he was captain of the basketball, football, and baseball teams, graduating in 1981. He went on to attend Clarkson University in Potsdam, NY, where he earned a degree in engineering.
Bob found his true calling in teaching and coaching. After moving to Falmouth in 1989, he taught 7th-grade math at Lawrence School for 33 years. He cared deeply for his students, recognizing who they were as individuals, and guiding them toward their full potential. Bob led the Falmouth Girls' Basketball program for three decades, mentoring generations of student-athletes on and off the court. He also coached freshman football at the high school, and treasured the years he spent coaching his daughters' travel basketball teams. A highlight of Bob's career was his recent induction into the Lawrence/Falmouth High School Athletic Hall of Fame.
Bob was an incredibly kind and dedicated mentor, teacher, coach, and community member. He built meaningful relationships with students, players, and colleagues. Witty, warm-hearted, and unwaveringly supportive, he had a remarkable ability to bring out the best in those around him. To many, he was not just a coach or teacher, but a trusted mentor and father figure. He was truly a pillar of the Falmouth community.
Bob loved spending time outdoors, especially in the woods near Goodwill Park and Beebe Woods, as well as in his hometown of Willow, NY. He delighted in spotting wildlife, including bald eagles, red-tailed hawks, osprey, and deer, and was rarely without his binoculars. He loved animals, and in recent years enjoyed trips to the Western US, where he could experience an even wider range of wildlife. After retiring from teaching, he returned to his roots, finding joy in mowing lawns and landscaping in Falmouth.
A lifelong sports fan, Bob enjoyed fantasy football and baseball, and could often be found enthusiastically cheering on Falmouth volleyball, soccer, and football games.
Above all, Bob loved his family. He shared a special bond with his wife, Lynne, also a longtime Falmouth teacher, and was a devoted father to his daughters, Sara and Hannah. When they returned home to Falmouth, he cherished their time together playing Catan, watching game shows and horror movies, and simply being together. He treasured every moment of family time.
Bob is survived by his wife and daughters, his sister, Susan Oswalt of Jacksonville Beach, FL, his brothers-in-law Paul Margulis of Ohio and Dan Margulis of North Carolina, his sister-in-law Gail Margulis of New York, and his nephews, Thomas Oswalt of Singapore, Chad Oswalt of Kentucky, David Oswalt of Texas, Alexander and Corey Margulis of North Carolina, and Griffin Margulis of Ohio.
