Mr. Robert J. Butler, Sr., of Waltham, died Saturday, February 1, 2025 in Saint Patrick's Manor in Framingham. He was 88.
Bob was born in Cambridge on January 19, 1937, a son of the late Paul Butler and Marie (O'Callaghan) (Butler) Hafford. Raised in Watertown he was a graduate of Watertown High School. He was a resident of Belmont before moving to Waltham where he lived for more than 20 years. He was the owner and operator of B&D Auto Body Shop in Cambridge until his retirement. Bob also served in the Massachusetts National Guard.
In 1962 he married the love of this life, Mary Teresa Vallely. In their 62 wonderful years the pair loved taking trips to the Cape and Maine, especially to Dennisport and West Dennis and to the Carmel, Bangor, and Jackman areas of Maine. They also made memories of a lifetime traveling to Ireland and Northern Ireland.
In addition to his parents Bob was predeceased by his step-father, John Hafford, his brothers and sister, John Butler, Marie Leomruno, and Paul Butler.
He leaves his beloved wife, Mary Teresa (Vallely) of Waltham; his sons Robert J. Butler, Jr. (Lisa) of Waltham, Sean P. Butler of Hudson, and Brendan F. Butler (Krista) of Hudson; his grandchildren, Ryan (Carissa), Seamus, Anthony, Sheila, Emily, Michelle, Sean Jr., and Erin Butler and Colleen Smith (Chris); his great-granddaughter, Riley Butler; his sisters, Eileen Flynn of Wayland and Elaine Olivieri of Newton; and many nieces, nephews, and their families.
Family and friends will honor and remember Bob's life by gathering on Friday, February 7th in Our Lady Comforter of the Afflicted Church, 880 Trapelo Road, Waltham, where his funeral Mass will be celebrated at 9:30 a.m.
