Robert George Byrd, 84 of Lake City, passed away on Tuesday, February 3, 2026 at the Haven Hospice Suwannee Valley Care Center in Lake City. He was born in Palatka, Florida to the late Lloyd Byrd and Lois Thomas Byrd Dicks. Mr. Byrd was raised in Lake City and was a graduate of Columbia High School class of 1959. He earned his Bachelor of Arts Degree at the University of Florida. Mr. Byrd was a veteran of the United States Air Force having served two tours in Vietnam and retiring in 1979. Mr. Byrd returned to Lake City and worked many years and also retiring from the Jenkins Domicilliary Home of Florida. Mr. Byrd was of the Baptist faith, a member of Hopeful Baptist Church, and loved being active in his Sunday School class, “Seniors for Christ” with Steve Truluck, teacher. He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, John F. Hilton; and one sister, Betty Dortch.
Survivors include his wife Kathleen Ann Severance Byrd, Lake City; two sons, Bryan David Oder and Carlton David Oder (Dena). one sister, Peggy Carter, Lake City..
A celebration of life service will be held at Hopeful Baptist Church on Friday, February 6, 2026 at 11:00 AM. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project and Stephen Siller Tunnel to Towers Foundation.
