Robert E. Canter, age 85, passed away December 30, 2025, at his home in Oak Hill surrounded by his loving family by his side. He was born on August 7th, 1940, in Pyro, Ohio to the late Jube and Bertha (Delaney) Canter.
He graduated from Oak Hill High School in the class of 1958. He was owner of Grant Trucking, retiring in 1994. He enjoyed his antique cars and traveling to car shows with his brother-in-law, Tony Ackley. Bob married his high school sweetheart, Ellen, on August 1, 1959. They were happily married for 66 years.
He is survived by his loving wife, Ellen (Allen) Canter; his daughters, Robin (Pat) McGoon, and Vonda (Keith) Adkins; grandchildren, Tommy (Taylor) Clark, Keri (Jason) Dunn, Wesley Howard, Wade (Maggie) Howard, Devin (Melissa) Kathmann, Taylor (Travis) Keefer. Also surviving are his great grandchildren: Grady and Griffin Dunn, Kameron and Louie Clark, baby Clark (due in April), Maverick Howard, Kenley and Kysen Keefer; and step great grandson, Bryson Landis.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his oldest daughter, Meleisa Joy (Bruce) Miller.
Visitation will be held on Friday, January 2, 2026, from 11:00 -1:00 at the Old Country Church Tabernacle, on state route 93, south of Oak Hill. Funeral services will immediately follow at 1:00 PM at the church with Pastor Bryon Carmon officiating. Burial will follow in C.M. Cemetery.
