Obituary of Robert Caston

Robert J. Caston, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, World War II Navy veteran, and respected construction superintendent, passed away peacefully July 28 at the age of 97.
Born to Mary and Joseph Caston in Hillside, NJ in 1927, Robert proudly served his country in the United States Navy during World War II. Following his service, he enjoyed a long and accomplished career in construction, serving as a superintendent on major projects throughout New York City and the Virgin Islands. Known for his dedication and leadership, Robert was deeply respected by colleagues and friends alike.

Robert and his wife, Clare Caston, made their home in Old Bridge, NJ, where they built a life centered around faith, family and community. They later moved to Freehold, NJ.

He was a proud and loving father to his four children: Robert Caston (Gayle), Patricia Kivlehan (Brian), Richard Caston (Lorraine) and Linda Caston. He was also a cherished grandfather to Cullen (Taylor), Mackenzie, Lauren, and Christian, and grandpup Marley who brought him endless joy. He is also survived by his loving brother Thomas Caston of Cape Cod, Massachusetts, nieces Donna and Debbie.

Robert enjoyed summers golfing, boating and spending time down the shore at their bungalow in South Seaside Park. A lifelong sports fan, he loved cheering on his favorite teams-the New York Yankees and New York Giants-and spent time coaching Little League in Old Bridge, where he guided and mentored young athletes in his community. He also contributed to his community by serving as a volunteer firefighter.

Robert and Clare enjoyed traveling and sailing to beautiful destinations around the world and attending the theater in NYC.

Robert was also a man of deep faith and service. A proud member of the Co-Cathedral of St. Robert Bellarmine in Freehold, the Holy Name Society and a 3rd Degree member of the Knights of Columbus, he embodied the values of generosity, humility, and dedication throughout his life.

He will be remembered for his strong moral compass, warm heart and enduring devotion to his family, faith and country.

A visitation will be held at the Clayton & McGirr Funeral Home, 100 Elton-Adelphia Road (Route 524), Freehold Township on Sunday, August 3, 2025 from 2:00 to 6:00 PM. Relatives and friends are invited to attend his Funeral Mass at the Co-Cathedral of St. Robert Bellarmine on Monday, August 4, 2025 at 10:30 AM.
