Robert S. Chicka

1937 - 2023

Robert Stanley Chicka, 86, of New Alexandria, passed away Wednesday, April 5, 2023, at Greensburg Care Center. He was born Jan. 21, 1937, in Salem Township, to the late Michael and Sara (Stepanovich) Chicka. Robert especially looked forward to hunting and fishing, spending deer and turkey season with friends and family. He enjoyed Sundays with family and listening to polka and Tamburitza music. An avid tinkerer, he always had several projects he was working on, either repairing, modifying or creating something. Throughout the years he hosted many lamb roasts. Friends and family always looked forward to the food and time spent with each other which he made possible. Robert is survived by his sister, Darlene Deskins (Harold), of Columbus Ohio; daughters, Michaelene Makoutz (George), of Taneytown, Md., Christine Chicka (Wayne Criado), of Layalhanna, Janene Madden (Glen), of Irwin, and son, Robert Chicka II (Allison), of Derry; seven grandchildren, Marissa, Ricky, Ashley, Thomas, Corey, Jesse and Rose; and eight great-grandchildren, Carrick, Clara, Dolores, Declan, Liam, Jack, Charlee and Charlie. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by wife, Gladys Evelyn Chicka; sister, Mildred Dovyak; and brothers, Milton Chicka, Daniel Chicka, Nicholas Chicka, Radie Chicka and Michael Chicka. The family would like to extend its heartfelt thanks to the staff of Bridge's Hospice and Greensburg Care Center for their excellent care. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, April 10, 2023, at BASH-NIED-JOBE FUNERAL HOME, 152 Abbe Place, Delmont, 724-468-8381. The Panachida will take place at 7 p.m. Monday. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, April 11, 2023, in Holy Ghost Ukrainian Orthodox Church, Slickville, with Father Robert Popichak officiating.
