Robert Clark Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Purdy Memorial Chapel - Lee on Feb. 19, 2026.
The family of Robert E. "Bob" Clark, Northwood, NH, experienced his final Irish goodbye when he slipped these earthly ties on Friday, February 13, 2026 at Wentworth Douglass Hospital in Dover, NH.

He entered the world of Lawrence/Methuen, MA 79 years ago, the first born of Charles M. and Virginia (Watts) Clark. The summers of his youth were spent in the waters of Seabrook Beach and working along Hampton Beach, at the Casino and the Troll Bridge. As the son of a coach, Bob soaked up football plays on the blackboard in the basement and turned them into plays on the field starting at age 8. His love of sports continued throughout his life and he excitedly anticipated the start of this year's Red Sox spring training.

Music was another strong thread in his life, starting in Boston where he organized college mixers, put bands in bars and managed the band Barry and the Remains that opened for the Beatles at Shea Stadium in New York in 1966.

Bob continued his adventure when he moved to NH in 1968 to grow his fledgling career in IT at UNH. Still at the University, he and 2 partners established what became the infamous Sneaky Pete's Saloon in Newmarket. Following his vision, he later transformed that bar into the Lamprey Tavern (now The Riverworks). His IT career continued with the State of NH and then in consulting, which allowed him to retire early and spend several years caring for his father. Then, with more time on his hands, he bought the place where he'd become a counter regular, the Northwood Diner. As owner of the diner for the past 23 years, he was proud of building a diner family comprised of his staff and every customer who walked through the door. In that time, young children grew into adults and brought the next generation in for a "simply good" meal. Bob could often be found sitting at the diner counter, regaling regulars with his treasure-trove of tales and unlimited opinions, or visiting every table to make sure all was well.

During the decades he spent in Northwood, Bob stepped up to serve the town in many capacities. He was elected to the School Board, Budget Committee and Planning Board. He volunteered on the recycling, recreation and community resource committees and was the first moderator of the fledgling Northwood Water District where he wielded a large gavel and kept Robert's Rules of Order nearby.

Left behind are his loving, patient wife of 51 years, Janet Story Clark; his less patient, but equally loving daughter, Rebecca; his beloved grandchildren Asha Clark, Aidan Plumpton and Cooper Copeland; and his most "favoritist" girl, his great granddaughter, Ayla. Also, his sister, Jane and family and three cousins.

Bob has long supported feeding those in need. Donations would be welcomed by the Northwood Emergency Food Pantry (c/o 155 Bennett Bridge Rd., Northwood NH 03261) or the NH Food Bank (PO Box 5000, Manchester, NH 03109-5000).

Friends and family may call between 2 and 5 PM, Friday, Feb. 27, 2026 at Purdy Memorial Chapel, 2 Concord Rd (Route 4), Lee, NH 03861.
