Joan... my heart and sympathy go out to you and your family. Bob was unpretentiously "amazing"! I recall moving into an office adjacent to his at Santa Rosa's Ambulatory Care Center in 1982, as we had just received a grant to launch Any Baby Can. His wisdom about children with special needs...and most importantly, the impact on the family...was beyond anything that we could learn from a textbook. Our community and our world is blessed by the decades of care and compassion that he shared with fragile children and families, and the education that he provided for those around him. Deepest Sympathy....

Our family was fortunate to have met Dr Clayton when my daughters were young. Dr Clayton was very compassionate and kind. He brought hope to so many parents and children, we are very grateful. He started the SHIP group at UUMC over 30 years ago. Many of us have stayed in touch because of this and have developed lifelong friendships.
May God bless you all during this time of loss and sadness, Donna Ferry

I was fortunate to have worked with Dr. Clayton at Santa Rosa Children's Ambulatory Care Center. I was always impressed by his compassion for special needs students and their families. When I decided to finish my college degree, he encouraged me to become a special education teacher. He always supported me while I was attending UTSA. After graduation he gave me the biggest hug and I felt that he was very proud of me. I was so grateful that he was with me in my decision and always asked me to "keep in touch". Rest in peace dear friend.

Dr. Clayton's death is particularly sad for me. We had a common appreciation and love for children with spina bifida and their families. He understood that the medical community had done an unparalleled job of saving the lives of these special children, and that it was up to other professionals to help them to live productively in this world. My sincerest condolences to his family and everyone who loved him.

I met Dr. Clayton in 2011 as an attorney appearing before SSA on disability cases. I was always impressed by his intellect; his ability to make sense of and explain confusing medical evidence was uncanny. However, what impressed me far more was his compassion and thoughtfulness. From how he treated the children (the claimants in these cases), the parents, myself, and the SSA ALJs and staff, his warmth and kindness always shined through. My condolences to his family members, and my God bless you and keep you during this time of loss and sadness.

I had the privilege and distinct honor to have worked alongside Dr. Clayton for over five years at the genetics clinic at Santa Rosa Hospital. The many clinical and interpersonal skills I learned from his interaction with patients and colleagues have served me well over to this day. He treated me with the utmost respect as he did the most disenfranchised of our community. A cute anecdote: whenever I would call for him while at his clinic at the old Robert B. Greene, I would ask for Dr. Roberto Clayton. No one ever questioned it or corrected me ... he fit right in. Rest in Peace Dr. Clayton. Descanse en Paz Dr. Roberto Clayton.

God rest his soul....was so sorry to hear about Dr Claytons passing.....but am so thankful to have known him and been a part of all of the brown bag lunches spent learning from this beautiful person...He dedicated his life to serving the parents of children with genetic differences.....and we appreciated his support and acceptance.....

They are special--those who are called to the arts of healing. And, they are special--those who love them. For it is both the easiest and the hardest thing, to love a physician. May God shelter you in the curve of His arm and steady your steps as you learn to walk again without this man you love. Blessings and peace. And love.

I have SO SO MANY fond memories of Dr. Clayton dating back to the late 70's. I worked with him professionally and always had such great admiration for him. He was an absolutely BRILLIANT man whose ideas were always so far ahead of his time....yet so timely. He made such a huge impact on the care of fragile children in Texas. I loved his smile....his LENGTHY pauses during our conversations when you just sat there for several minutes while he gathered his thoughts to respond!!! AND.....I was fortunate to know him personally. He and Joan were such a source of support for me when my husband was going through a major illness. AND then Bob became our Santa Claus every Christmas eve for at least 10 years....way beyond the time that our 2 children believed in Santa!! Dr. Clayton was one of a kind....he definitely made this world a better place. I am a better person for having known him. Love and hugs to Joan and the family.

We were so blessed to meet Bob in May of this year in his ancestral homeland of Scotland. So so pleased we met him and that he got to make the trip. Such a kind, gentle intelligent person. Our love to family - you are so lucky to have had him in your life.
