Robert Collake Obituary

Robert L. Collake Jr.
February 17, 1944 – August 9, 2025
Robert L. Collake Jr. passed away peacefully on August 9, 2025, at the age of 81.
He is lovingly survived by his partner of 39 years, Joaquin Romero Jr., and their devoted Miniature Schnauzer, Bianca.
He also leaves behind his beloved sisters Alice Collins, Josephine Frost, and Faye Kelley, as well as many nephews, nieces, great-nephews, and great-nieces. His family included the Frost, Clay, and Kelley families, along with his treasured "favorites" Kami K. Smith, Niles Kelley, and, by marriage, Adolfo Granados, Jessica G. Hernandez, and Anexa Rodriguez.
Robert was preceded in death by his parents, Robert L. Collake Sr. and Sarah F. Collake; his sisters Mildred Clay, Betty Collake, and Juanita C. Oliver; and his brother-in-law James T. Oliver.
Born in Sweetwater, Tennessee, Robert's life journey took him to Georgia, Florida, California, and even Europe, before he ultimately settled in Houston, Texas, where he built his career and his home. He lived an extraordinary and adventurous life-playing baseball in high school and later softball in Houston's Montrose Softball League. After graduating from Central High School in Chattanooga, Tennessee, Robert worked at DuPont Chemical, served 30 years at St. Luke's Hospital, and spent 11 years at Park Plaza Hospital.
Known for his kindness, humor, and hospitality, Robert loved socializing, entertaining at home, and embarking on road trips that often turned into memorable adventures. Upon retiring, he embraced a quieter life-watching TV, tending to his garden, enjoying the beauty of Texas bluebonnets and wildflowers, and sharing each day with Joaquin and their dogs.
For 39 years, Robert and Joaquin built a life full of love, laughter, and countless journeys- especially to Chattanooga, where family and memories awaited. His final trip home in 2024 was one of his greatest joys, knowing it might be his farewell visit to those he cherished most.
Robert was a gentle soul and a loving partner whose quiet strength and generous heart left a lasting mark on everyone he met. He spoke often of his sisters and treasured every visit. Though his time with us feels far too short, his love, warmth, and unwavering kindness will forever remain in our hearts.
We will miss him deeply, but will carry forward the joy and love he so freely gave.
