Robert Allen Cowan

Robert A. Cowan, 76, a native of Muskogee, OK and a resident of Madera County for 45 years, passed away Sunday, December 7, 2025. Robert was born in Oklahoma to Perry and Ella Mae (Neal) Cowan and shortly after moved to the Central Valley of California. He spent his young years on the Westside and graduated from Tranquility High School in 1967. He worked in different fields of Agriculture from a young age and learned the value of hard work.

Robert joined the US Army after high school and served in the 9th Infantry Division in Vietnam. Robert was advanced to the rank of Sergeant and valiantly served. He received various medals including the Vietnam Service Medal with 3 Bronze Service Stars.

Robert returned on leave and married his sweetheart Sandy Buhler in 1970. He continued his last year of service in Ft. Hood, TX. They then returned to the Firebaugh/Mendota area, later residing in Madera, where they raised their two daughters.

He enjoyed riding his various motorcycles throughout the years. He would always say, "You meet the nicest people on a Honda!". He was a member of the Madera Honda Riders Club and enjoyed the comradery with his fellow riders.

He is preceded by his parents and survived by his wife of 55 years, Sandra Cowan, of Madera, Daughters, Michelle Leavitt of Spring, TX and Lori Collins (Ben) of Carmel, CA, along with Grandchildren, Lance (Alyssa), Meliya (Matt), A.J., Timothy, Daniela and Hailey. He also leaves his two Great Grandsons.

Services will be Saturday, December 13, 2025, at 11:00 AM at Jay Chapel 1121 Roberts Ave. Madera, CA. The burial will be Monday, December 15, 2025, at Arbor Vitae Cemetery at 11:00 AM.
