Robert A. Cronbaugh "Bobby", 77, of North Liberty, formerly of Marengo, passed away on January 10, 2025, at his home, ending his battle with cancer. Cremation services will be performed by Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo. Family and friends are invited to gather on Monday, January 20, 2025, at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in North Liberty at 10 a.m., followed by a memorial service at 11 a.m.
Bobby was born on November 28, 1947, to Arlo and Leta (Cooperider) Cronbaugh in Marengo, Iowa. He married Sandra Von Essen-Curtis on October 5, 1984.
Bobby grew up on his parents' farm outside Marengo, Iowa. He worked hard helping his dad on the farm, but he was also known for his adventurous and mischievous spirit, which led to many legendary stories shared by his family over the years-tales of joy rides, late-night escapades, and near-death experiences.
Bob was an independent over-the-road owner-operator truck driver. He gained his old-school knowledge of the road from the best and generously shared it with less experienced drivers. Prepared and levelheaded in unexpected situations, Bob had an extraordinary ability to recall and recount road adventures with such vivid detail that listeners felt as though they were right there with him.
In 2005, Bob was part of a team of drivers assisting the Hurricane Katrina Red Cross disaster relief efforts, helping to organize and distribute donations and delivering mobile kitchens where they were most needed. This experience allowed him to make many new friends while sharing in a once-in-a-lifetime mission.
After a brief retirement and despite a cancer diagnosis, Bob embarked on a new path working for Lazer Spot as a lead spotter at International Paper in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. As a supervisor, he earned respect for his leadership and inspired others with his strong work ethic. His dedication influenced his children and grandchildren, as he encouraged them to make their own decisions while offering the wisdom of his experiences.
Bob was a wonderful husband and best friend to Sandy, celebrating 40 years together. He was immensely proud of his family, serving as a great listener and a supportive presence.
Bob is survived by his loving wife of 40 years, Sandy; his children: Michael Cronbaugh of North Liberty, Scott (Cindy) Cronbaugh of Newton, Kelli Chapman of Lisbon, Troy (Michelle) Cronbaugh of Marengo, Lisa (Doug) Weiland of Mechanicsville, Joel Curtis of Coralville, Trena (Derek) Haynes of Moline, and Amy; his cherished grandchildren: Zachary, Dane, McKennan, Noah, Karley, Chance, Breyona, Aubree, Ezra, Bryli, Caleb, Caitlyn, Quentin, Jake, Nora, Tyresea, Jenna; and ten great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his son Vince, his in-laws Jeanette and Arnold Von Essen, and his brothers Daryl, Ronny, and Marlo.
Memorial contributions may be directed to Camp Courageous of Iowa or Holy Trinity Lutheran Church.
