Robert Davidson Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Chapel By The Sea on Jan. 22, 2025.
With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Robert A. Davidson, lovingly known as Bob, who left us peacefully on January 15, 2025, at 93. He is survived by his cherished wife Betty, who stood faithfully by his side for 72 wonderful years, along with their three beloved children-Norma, Melvin (Jeannie), and Valerie (Larry). Bob also leaves two grandchildren, Elizabeth (Boone) Banducci and Ahren Clapsaddle, and three precious great-grandchildren, Dakota, Gracelynne, and Robert, III Banducci. He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Hattie, as well as his siblings, Hattie Marie, Stan, and Glen.
Bob was born on August 10, 1931, in Hood River, Oregon. He graduated from Maupin High School in 1950. He joined the Oregon National Guard and while serving he attended engineering school at Fort Belvoir. He married Betty Andrews on December 31, 1952, in Wilmington, North Carolina. Bob marched with the 41st Engineers in Dwight Eisenhower's Inauguration Parade in Washington, D.C. He returned to Oregon to find work with the Pocatello Power Company. He was proud to bring the first power into the Warm Springs Indian Reservation and later lines that crossed the John Day River into Central Oregon.
On February 10, 1955, Bob enlisted in the United States Air Force electronics school at Keesler Air Force Base in Biloxi, Mississippi. In 1969, when Hurricane Camille, a Category 5 storm, wreaked havoc in Mississippi, Bob and his team worked tirelessly to clear roads and aid in search efforts.
In 1962 his work was pivotal in establishing a radar site at Point Cabrillo Coast Guard Lighthouse in Fort Bragg, California, and he played a key role in its decommissioning in 1974.
After his honorable discharge from the Air Force in 1974, Bob started his new career as a building contractor in Fort Bragg. Bob was a 4-H Leader for 10 years, where he taught youth about proper gun safety, and President at the Fort Bragg Gun Club for five years.
But above all, what truly defined Bob was his profound love for his family. Spending time with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren brought him immeasurable joy. He was their steadfast hero, a source of wisdom and kindness who will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
By his wishes, no services will be held. Those wishing to honor his memory may make donations to the Mendocino Coast Humane Society 19691 Summers Lane, Fort Bragg, CA 95437, or Shriners Children's Hospital 2425 Stockton Blvd, Sacramento, CA 95817.
