Robert Deszcz, age 83, of Broadview Heights and Middle Bass Island, Ohio, passed away peacefully on January 29, 2026. He was a devoted husband, cherished father, proud grandfather, and loyal friend whose life was marked by kindness and a deep joy for living.
Bob was the beloved husband of 60 years to his soulmate, Beverly Deszcz (nee Sondej). Together they built a beautiful life filled with laughter, adventure, and deep partnership. He was a loving and supportive father to Michelle (Ralph) Gillota and DeAnna (Alan) Leonard, and an adoring Grandpa to Kathleen Gillota, Carly Gillota, Ashley Leonard, and Danielle Leonard, each of whom brought him immense pride and joy. He is also survived by his sister Janet LePore, sisters-in-law Patricia Mazenac and Janet Sadowsky, and many dear friends who became like family. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Gerald Deszcz.
Born on January 9, 1943, in
Cleveland, Ohio, to John and Wanda Deszcz. Bob grew up proud of his Polish heritage, a pride that reflected in his love of polka music, good company, and lively celebrations. Bob worked for Mason Structural Steel for 43 years as Chief Structural Engineer and eventually became a Vice President. He was known for his strong work ethic, sharp mind, and steady leadership. Serving as general contractor he fulfilled his dream of designing and building a home in Brecksville.
He loved boating, playing cards, fishing and scuba diving. He found his greatest joy near the water. He and Beverly spent many happy years as "snowbirds" in Cape Coral, Florida, and cherished their time on Middle Bass Island. Travel was a passion but his favorite moments were the simplest ones: sitting with Beverly and his family, overlooking the lake and the sunset. Above all, Bob will be remembered for his generous heart and the devotion he had to his family.
