Robert DuBay Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Volk Leber Funeral Home - Teaneck on Dec. 7, 2025.
It is with deep sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Robert Paul Dubay, known lovingly to his friends and family as "Dubes." Robert was born on June 3, 1952, in Weehawken, NJ, and tragically passed away on November 24, 2025, in a sudden accident at his home on 35 Walnut Street in Teaneck, NJ.

Robert was the beloved son of Theodore and Pauline (Picillo) Dubay, who moved to Teaneck in the 1960s, where they raised Robert and his sister Janet. It was here that Robert spent most of his life, forming lifelong friendships and becoming an integral part of the community.

In the 1970s, Robert found his calling as the lead singer and guitarist for the band Charisma, a group that not only delighted audiences with their music but also brought him together with the love of his life, Joanne Vary. Their relationship blossomed from that moment on, leading to a 19-year marriage that was filled with love, laughter, and unwavering devotion. The bond they shared, built on mutual respect and deep affection, continued long after their marriage ended, lasting until Robert's passing.

A man of many talents, Robert had a remarkable sense of humor that could light up any room. His positive outlook on life was infectious, and his generosity of spirit touched everyone he encountered. Whether through his artistic endeavors, his work in the advertising world, or simply through his kindness, Robert had an extraordinary gift for making others feel seen and valued. He was an accomplished singer, guitarist, and visual artist, using his creativity to enrich the lives of those around him. Like his father, Theodore, who served as the Director of Advertising for Hess Oil Company for 40 years, Robert found his own path in the advertising world, founding his own firms, Artworx Graphic Designs and Robert Dubay Design and Photography.

Robert's legacy will live on not only through his work and his music but also through the many lives he touched with his warmth, humor, and generous heart. He is survived by his devoted sister, Janet Dubay Munczinski and her husband, William; numerous nieces and nephews; and his longtime girlfriend, Suzanne Clark, whose companionship brought him much joy.

Robert's passing leaves a void in the hearts of all who knew him, but his memory will live on in the songs he sang, the art he created, and the laughter he shared. He was a true friend, a loving family member, and a gifted artist who will be deeply missed but never forgotten.

Rest in peace, Robert. You will always be remembered with love.

Uncle Bob,
You will be missed and remembered by all whom have ever met you. You were a great funny Uncle and always enjoyed going over to your house to "play" on your keyboard and other various instruments. You were the coolest uncle and it was horrible to hear of your tragic accident and that you were taken away way to early .
Love always, Jill
