Robert E. “Bob” McDonald, 94, of Augusta, IL passed away at 1:35 am Tuesday March 17, 2026 at the Illinois Veterans Home in Quincy, IL.
He was born on May 1, 1931 in Huntsville Township, IL to Joseph Roy and Wyllodeane Eyman McDonald and was raised on a farm in the Shiloh neighborhood. He was married to Ardena Powell and they later divorced.
Bob attended Shiloh school and graduated from Augusta High School in 1949. After graduation he served his country in the United States Army from 1951-1953 and was stationed in Trieste, Italy. After returning from service he lived in Augusta, IL and owned and operated the Conoco Station for 2 years and drove a school bus for Augusta Community School. He sold the station in 1956 and started McDonald Trucking Service in Augusta which he operated until his retirement and was very proud of his sons for following in his footsteps continuing in the trucking industry. He enjoyed coaching summer little league and pony league teams while his sons were growing up.
He is survived by 2 daughters; Dena McDonald of Hamilton, IL, Donna Via of Keokuk, IA, 3 sons; Dan (Susie) McDonald of Augusta, IL, Donnie (Darilyn) McDonald of Augusta, IL and Denis McDonald of Augusta, IL, 6 grandchildren; Brian (Sarah) McDonald of Bowen, IL, Austin (Morgan) McDonald of Augusta, IL, Grant (Alyssa) McDonald of Bowen, IL, Darcey (Brent) Pieper of St. Paul, IA, Jill Abston of Keokuk, IA and Kelsey Clark of White Hall, IL, 11 great-grandchildren, 3 great-great-grandchildren, a sister, Betty (Gene) Cox of Quincy, IL, sister-in-law, Brenda McDonald of Rushville, IL along with numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his siblings; Richard (Dick) McDonald, Wayne McDonald, Gary McDonald and Karen McDonald.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm Saturday March 21, 2026 at the Hamilton Funeral Home in Augusta, IL with Rev. Dixie Croxton officiating. Burial will be in Woodlawn cemetery in Augusta, IL. Visitation will be held 1 hour prior to time of services Saturday. Memorial contributions may be made to Augusta Woodlawn Cemetery or the Augusta Lions Club.
